To date there are no long-term studies regarding cancer risk which result from exposure to prior oil spill disasters. Essentially the risk of cancer is unknown. What is known is that there was 185 million gallons of crude oil spilled in the Gulf of Mexico, which contain carcinogens that caused documented chromosomal damage in oil cleanup workers in other oil spills. Not to mention the potentially carcinogenic chemicals in the oil dispersing agents use in the Gulf.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is planning on studying the effect of exposure for BP cleanup workers and the long-term risk of cancer.
Dr. Greg Vigna, MD, JD, Founder of Life Care Solutions Group Inc., understands the importance of education, information, and the value of early diagnosis for cancer going forward. Life Care Solutions Group, Inc. is providing long-term correspondence via email alerts to all BP Oil Spill Cleanup workers and residents of the Gulf Coast with significant direct and indirect exposure to this man made disaster as more information becomes known.
